Walkersville High School gives a warm and a friendly congratulations to Junior Sydnie Grossnickle and her beautiful six year old cow, Stoney Point GA Sugar, for winning reserve grand champion at the 4th Jersey show state fair on September 5th, 2016.

Grossnickle and Sugar recieved a metal tub and cow bell as a prize of their excellent performance. As for preparation, Grossnickle stated, “Every summer I put her on a rope holder and walk her, I also do this everyday now to prepare for the Frederick Fair.” Grossnickle has taken care of Sugar since day one. Sugar is now six years old and has been milking for nine months. For a cow that is a long time so Grossnickle is staying positive and hoping for the best next week at the great Frederick fair.

Sugar’s full name is Stoney Point GA Sugar; Stoney Point stands for the farm she is from, GA is the initials of her father, and Sugar is her first name; all together these make up her full name.

When showing cows the judges look for many different characteristics. Since Sugar is milked they look at her dairy, mammary system placement, and her rear udder attachments. They also look at how long her legs are, her brown eyes and coloring, and Sugar’s history.

“I am always hopeful but she’s 6 and has been milking for 9 months now so it all depends on what the judge looks for and if they like older cows,” said Grossnickle.

Sugar just recently gave birth to a girl calf, Spice. Spice is now nine months old and will be shown at the Frederick Fair along with Sugar.

“I am excited to see all the different animals at the fair; my favorite farm animal would have to be the goats; they are really cool animals,” said junior Kyle Wilkinson.

Senior Chase Bosley stated “My favorite animal to see at the fair are the horses because you get the opportunity to ride them.”

Don’t forget to come out to the fair this week to see all the beautiful animals being shown and cheer on one of Walkersville’s finest, Stoney Point GA Sugar.
