Special Education Teachers Share a Love of Teaching

by Taylor Seabolt for the Walkersville High School Lions Pride

There are so many new faces at Walkersville High School this year. Among the bunch are Anthony and Ryanne Hartman, two special education teachers who share a love for teaching.

  1. Hartman has been a teacher for a total of five years, working in administration for three. He expects every student to put forth great effort and to respect the staff as well as each other. Aside from his principled beliefs, the Hartmans value humor and support.

“I like the sense of community and support among the staff at Walkersville High School,” said A. Hartman.

For A. Hartman, the best part about “ teaching is knowing that I can possibly influence the students to make better decisions, achieve their goals and graduate.”

Only eight years before, A. Hartman became interested in the profession. R. Hartman began her career as a special education teacher. She enjoys helping the students realize their full potential and expects them to try their best each and every day.

“I expect the students to come to school and learn to the best of their ability. Everyone has bad days but a mutual respect is important to have,” she said.

  1. Hartman values trustworthiness and respect. “You have to be able to respect someone before you can trust them. Respect is trust,” she said.
  2. Hartman pointed out, “You can really tell how the dynamics change in a community where everyone is so supportive opposed to a community where no one is active or supportive at all. Walkersville is really community supported.”

“It is definitely a larger community with a more diverse population but the staff and administration are super supportive and friendly,” said A. Hartman.

The Hartmans enjoy photography and entertaining their two children when they aren’t motivating the students of WHS to be the best person they can be. Walkersville High School is very thankful to have two amazing additions to the community.
