Public Assistance Sought to Identify Suspect in Church Shooting

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect believed to be involved in the shooting at Jackson’s Chapel in the 5600 block of Ballenger Creek Pike on Saturday, April 19th, 2019.

On Saturday, April 20th, 2019, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded to Jackson’s Chapel in the 5600 block of Ballenger Creek Pike in Frederick after receiving calls reporting a shooting. There was a funeral service taking place at the time of the incident.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and learned of two victims suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds and both victims were taken to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time, but believed to be non-life threatening. It was reported that the suspect had fled the area prior to emergency personnel arriving. Detectives are currently on scene and attempting to determine suspect information. Although the suspect has not yet been located, the Sheriff’s Office does not believe this to be a random shooting. It is believed that the shooting occurred after an altercation between individuals at the service.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Maryland State Police, Frederick Police Department, and the Division of Fire & Rescue Services.
