Increase in Phone Scams and Spoofed Phone Numbers

In an effort to remain vigilant in making Frederick County residents aware of ongoing phone scams, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office would like to keep citizens informed on some of the trends that have been reported the most. More recently, individuals have been receiving phone calls from spoofed numbers coming from local County numbers, such as the Sheriff’s Office main number (301-600-1046) and the Frederick County Health Department main number (301-600-1029). Identity Thefts Through U.S. Mail

Between March 24th, 2019 and April 10th, 2019, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous reports of identity theft in the areas of Old Receiver Road, Rocky Springs Road, and Shookstown Road in Frederick. Victims have reported that they did not receive any U.S. mail for several days. Victims also started being notified of several credit card accounts being opened with their personal identifying information.
