Media Center Shaping Up to Be the Best In Frederick County

by Ethan Campe

Cindy Doggett, Walkersville High School’s Library Media Specialist has huge plans for our library.

After meeting with supervising media specialists, she developed a two year plan to update the current library into a 21st century learning environment. She was very grateful for Tracie OKeefe’s, an instructional assistants help with insightful room design accommodating the new furniture.

Renovation plans to bring our library forward is to create a more fluid space and collaborative learning environment.

The luxurious wheeled chairs now taking a large percentage of the media center space were an incredible expense, and several students share their appreciation. “I like them; they’re comfortable, goes with [a] library aesthetic,” said freshman Cameryn Protono. “They’re fun and comfortable,” added freshmen Jiloian Fisher. Sophomore Elijah Oliver added “[They’re] so much more convenient.”

Next years plans are to bring new tables to the space to provide even more flexibility for the learning environment. New tables that move about the room that can be separated or placed together to create different arrangements accommodating more classroom scenarios.

One such scenario would be splitting off into separate tables for group work or a whole class discussion involving a large connected table.

The old chairs are being offered up to any of the faculty members that would find them of use. Faculty members are more than welcome to come down to the media center and take some for their classroom’s uses.

After no more faculty members find use, they will then be offered to other schools within the county, then following warehouse storage for whenever someone finds them in need.

Doggett is excitedly looking forward to renovating our Walkersville library. “I have the best library in the whole county,” commented Doggett.
