Holiday Toy Shoppe
Glade Valley Community Services’ Holiday Toy Shoppe is gearing up again this year to help provide a wonderful Christmas to many less fortunate children in our community.
Last year the Holiday Toy Shoppe provided new clothes, shoes, toys and books to 171 children and gift cards and books to 77 teens.
This program is supported by the generosity of the churches, schools, businesses and individuals in our community. All the gifts the children and teens receive and the door prizes the parents receive are donated.
The families do go through a screening process to ensure that help is provided to those who truly need it, and that they are in the Walkersville Feeder School District. Applications were accepted from the families in October.
During November, we provide all our donors with information regarding what specific items are needed for these children. All the donations will be dropped off at Walkersville Town Hall on Sunday, December 6th with the families coming to Town Hall on December 9th to collect their gifts.
Many volunteers work hard to make this program such a success. Self Storage Plus in Walkersville has donated a storage unit since 2008 to store toys and clothing collected for the Toy Shoppe and the use of one of their trucks.
