The Frederick County Health Department (FCHD) announced today that six cases of COVID-19 have been reported at the Frederick Health and Rehabilitation Center. Ten residents have been tested in total, six were positive and four were negative. Of the six cases, three are male and three are female, with ages ranging from 71-86 years. One of the residents with a positive test result has died. This deceased male resident was a man in his 80’s with underlying health conditions. The other five residents with positive test results are currently receiving treatment at the Frederick Health and Rehabilitation Center.
The FCHD Liaison to Long Term Care Facilities, a position created for the COVID-19 response, toured the facility today and reviewed their operations and their infection control protocols. The facility has a current bed census of 98, and reported to the FCHD Liaison that they implemented heightened precautions several weeks ago. They are continuing to screen their staff each shift and to screen outside essential health care personnel prior to entering the Center to minimize the risk of the spread of infection. They are restricting visitation based on guidance from the CDC and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and are in regular contact with their suppliers and
vendors, as well as pharmacy providers to ensure the facility has access to the supplies and medications necessary to maintain care for their residents and patients. Any residents at the Center who are symptomatic are being isolated.
“Frederick Health and Rehabilitation Center is cooperating and we will continue to work closely with this and all long term care facilities in Frederick,” said Dr. Barbara Brookmyer, the Health Officer in Frederick County.
FCHD will continue to work with the facility to monitor the situation.
