Grossnickle Named FFA Ambassador
The Glade Valley Community Show wrapped up Friday evening with the Walkersville FFA Chapter’s Ambassador Contest. Seven young ladies entered the contest to serve as their FFA Chapter’s Ambassador.
The contestants were:
- Hailey Bodmer, Class of 2018,
- Jessica Earp, Class of 2017,
- Maddie Etchison, Class of 2018,
- Sydnie Grossnickle, Class of 2018,
- Cheyenne Reese, Class of 2018,
- Kaitlin Stambaugh, Class of 2017, and
- Laci White, Class of 2017.
Each of the seven contestants met with a panel of three judges for interviews. Afterward, they all dined with the judges to get to know each other in a more informal and relaxed setting. Finally, each contestant was introduced to a packed audience in the Walkersville cafeteria. The evening’s contest was emceed by former Walkersville FFA Ambassador Amy Mathews Stephens. Each contestant choose a “fish bowl” question, and Mrs. Stephens read the question to the contestant and the audience.
While Walkersville Alumnus Ashley Fuss gave a talk on her recent trip to South Africa, the judges deliberated out of sight. After Ms. Fuss’ talk and presentation of agriculture in South Africa, Mrs. Stephens announced the winner, Sydnie Grossnickle.
While she was being sashed, Charlotte Thompson Brewster, another Walkersville FFA Alum and judge for the contest, spoke for the judges. They praised all of the contestants for their tremendous work on behalf of FFA and encouraged each of them to continue serving as ambassadors for FFA and agriculture in the community.
The evening ended with a Cake and Baked Goods Auction of the items entered in the Community Show.
