Glade Valley Well Represented at The Great Frederick Fair
Glade Valley residents rose to the occasion and represented the area well at The Great Frederick Fair last week.
The Fair began with Frederick County 4-H’s fifty-second Royalty Contest held at The Great Frederick Fair. Haley Welty and Jameson Kuster, both students in Walkersville, were crowned 4-H Junior Princess and Junior Prince, respectively. Both Ms. Welty’s and Mr. Kuster’s brothers recently held the title of 4-H Junior Prince. Brandi Main, a member of Kaleidoscope 4-H Club with Jameson Kuster, was named a 4-H Princess. Mia Ogg, a member of the Walkersville 4-H Club, was named a 4-H Ambassador.
Rayann Eaves of the Kaleidoscope 4-H Club was named 2016 Swine Ambassador. Ms. Eaves has been showing hogs throughout her career in 4-H and FFA.
Ray Martin IV, of the Walkersville 4-H Club, baked the Grand Champion Cake. His carrot cake raised $5000 for Frederick County 4-H during its Annual 4-H Cake Auction Sunday evening. Krietz Auto Repair and Sales of Frederick won the cake with their $5000 donation to 4-H. This was not Mr. Martin’s first champion cake, but this cake brought twice what his coconut cake raised three years ago.
Not to be outdone, Rachel Eaves, Rayann’s sister, won Grand Champion Hog. Her top prize won her high dollars at the Frederick County 4-H Beef Sheep & Swine Sale Thursday evening.
