Glade Elementary Invites Families to Celebrate American Education Week

glade_elementary_logoDuring the week of November 17th through November 21st, Glade Elementary will be celebrating American Education Week. As part of the celebration, Glade Elementary School invites families of students to visit their student’s classroom for a glimpse into some of the many and varied educational activities at Glade.

On Monday, November 10th, students in Kindergarten – Grades 5 will begin writing an essay in their classrooms to enter in a school writing contest. The topic will be either, “School – A Place to Grow and Learn.” or, “My Favorite Memory of Elementary School”. One winner from each grade level will be chosen and awarded a book gift card during American Education Week.

In addition to inviting families to visit at this time Glade Elementary Schools also plans a school celebration for each day of the week.

  • Monday: Everyone will wear red, white, and blue to kick off American Education Week.
  • Tuesday: Students and staff will participate in Drop Everything and Read, (DEAR)
  • Wednesday: School Logo Day – Everyone will wear a favorite sweatshirt/tee shirt from a favorite college, university, or school.
  • Thursday: Pat on the Back Day (Students give Jaguar Spots to staff members to say thanks)
  • Friday: Glade School Spirit Day – Staff and students will wear their school colors. Essay winners will be announced.

To organize the many families, Glade Elementary School has designated specific grade level visitation days where family members may spend time in the classroom from 9:00-10:30. The schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, Nov. 17: 2nd Grade
  • Tuesday, Nov. 18: 4th Grade and Learning for Life classroom
  • Wednesday, Nov. 19: 1st Grade
  • Thursday, Nov. 20: 5th Grade and Kindergarten
  • Friday, Nov. 21 (2 hr. early dismissal): Pre-K (am and pm full sessions) and 3rd Grade

The Glade Elementary School’s PTA will host a continental breakfast for visitors in the cafeteria from 8:30-9:00. Families are invited to drop by before classroom visitation to meet and greet friends and neighbors. This hospitality center will be offered only for visitors who arrive prior to the 9:05 visitation. For afternoon Pre-Kindergarten visitors the PTA has arranged for families to enjoy refreshments within each of the Pre-Kindergarten classrooms.

Visitors must remember to sign in at the sign-in table in the front lobby and receive a visitor’s badge before proceeding to the classrooms. Visitors should park on the playground or at Heritage Park. Parking is not permitted in the staff parking lot or on Glade Road. The only entrance door available to visitors during school hours is the front entrance.

Due to our large enrollment, tight lunch schedules, and lack of sufficient cafeteria space, Glade Elementary School administrators ask families to pick a different week throughout the school year to join us for lunch in the cafeteria other than American Education Week.

Glade Elementary asks visitors to RSVP to GladePTA@gmail.com to help plan for accomodating visitors.
