Frederick County Public Schools Will Open Fully Virtual

The Frederick County Board of Education voted unanimously this evening to open fully virtual in August and continue through the first semester. The Superintendent and administration will be allowed to identify small groups of students who may need in-school instruction, and arrange to meet those needs.

The Board also voted to postpone extra-curricular activities including fall sports until January. Dr. Teresa Alban, Superintendent of Schools, explained that superintendents have discussed having fall, winter, and spring sports all in the second semester. Each season would last six weeks.

The Board of Education will further evaluate activities when they discuss the format for schools in the second semester which will begin in January 2021.

The Board of Education will meet to further discuss virtual learning on August 5, 2020.
