In the frigid winter months, everyone longs for the sweet tastes of warmer weather. However, not many are thrilled with the idea of overspending on the mediocre fruits offered by the local grocery stores. Look no further because the Walkersville FFA is in the middle of their strawberry and nut sale! Maryland Crop Harvest Calendar says that strawberries are considered harvest ready in mid-May, but why wait when you can have them now!?

While the assorted nuts are included in the order form, the major focus is on the fresh strawberries! They will be shipped directly from the farm, and these particular strawberries will be coming from Plant City-Dover Florida.

Vice President of the Walkersville FFA chapter Kylee Lewis said, “These strawberries will be coming from Florida’s strawberry capital, so we know they will be great quality!”

The strawberries are being sold in quantities of a single quart, a half flat, and one flat. Each flat contains eight quarts, so the half flat contains four quarts. A quart is reasonably priced at $4.00, a half flat at $14.00, and a whole flat at $25.00.

On the digital magazine, ffanewhorizons.org, there were tons of strawberry fun facts just waiting to be discovered! For example, the United States accounts for 30% of all world strawberry production. And Florida actually produces the second highest amount in the U.S.! Another interesting fact is the average person in the United States eats 4.85 pounds of strawberries each year!

“I have people who bought the strawberries last year placing new orders and they seem really excited,” said Sydnie Grossnickle the Secretary of the Walkersville FFA chapter.

The Junior Advisor of the Walkersville FFA chapter Chase Ferguson said, “It’s important to get as many orders as we can for our fundraisers because it really benefits our chapter. It especially helps lower the cost for the members who have to travel for different competitions.”

If you are interested in delicious fresh strawberries, find an FFA officer and they can help you order some!
