Eliza I. Stoner

Eliza I. Stoner, 94, of Walkersville, MD, died Friday, November 11, 2016 at The Record Street Home in Frederick. She was the loving wife of James E. Stoner, Jr. who died in 2009.

Born August 19, 1922 in Smithfield, NC, she was the daughter of the late John and Annette Lawrence Ives.

She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Walkersville, where she sang in the senior choir and having served as the junior choir director.

Eliza was a Registered Nurse and was employed by the Frederick Memorial Hospital for 18 years. She served on the Board of Directors of the Record Street Home for 25 years. Eliza also worked at the Walkersville food bank. She also had a love for reading and passed this on to her daughters. Knitting, cooking and raising her family of five were her first priority that kept her busy.

She is survived by her daughters, Anne Humphries of Roanoke, VA, Tish Sawyer and husband, Tom of Spokane, WA ,Betsy Meyer and husband, Al, of Gaithersburg, MD and Mary Stoner of Cool, CA; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca Carter(Jeff), Michael Humphries(Anissa), Ben Sawyer(Jen) and Erin Gillespie(Daniel); great-grandchildren Maddi and Emmi Carter, Grace and Levi Gillespie. She is also survived by sisters Sabra Schell (Pat), and Sallie Robenolt and sister-in-law Hazel Ives and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eliza was preceded in death by a son James E. Stoner, III and a granddaughter, Rhianna Weber; brother John Ives, Jr. and sisters Sue Ives, Anne Adams and brother-in-law Reg Adams.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Walkersville where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Rev. Mark Foucart will officate. Inurnment will be private at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the medical staff and Record Street Home for the loving and kind care extended to Liza especially at the end of her life.
