Check Out the New Walkersville High School Snapchat Filter
by Grace Armogida
This past weekend a new Snapchat filter for WHS launched. Students were astonished to discover it when they came into school on Monday.
The widely used Snapchat app has many different filters that users can use depending on their location and other promotions the company has uploaded to the app. All of the schools in Frederick County have a filter that showcases a creative design that someone has made for the school. Even though Walkersville already has a filter, there is always room for improvement. “The old filter looked like it was just thrown together. The new one is more artsy,” said freshman Bleyther Gomez.
The creator behind this new filter is none other than senior Jake Keith. He was the man behind the camera for the fall football season, and has been working on this new filter for a while. “It was an assignment that we had back in Computer Graphics, but we didn’t submit them because Snapchat was blocked on the schools wifi.” Keith saw a need for something that the school could have that was not so plain. “I was looking at Snapchat the other day, and I was like ‘Man the current filter sucks!’, so I submitted my project from last year.”
With all of the hard work that goes into designing and submitting a new Snapchat filter, this was no easy task. “I came up with the filter by using the school colors, and then one of my favorite fonts. Then, since we’re the Lions, I decided to add some pawprints,” said Keith.
Another cool feature about this new filter is that users can use the filter from Sheetz, all the way to behind the Safeway in Walkersville. This makes the filter more usable for the public and the community.
There is already another filter in the works for Walkersville High School. “I think I’m making one for Mary Poppins since they can be event based, so it’s gonna be the silhouette of Mary’s head and then it will say something like ‘Come see Mary Poppins at the high school!’ which will be really cool to have for the show,” said Keith.
