The Peg and Orley Bourland Educational Assistance Fund is now awarded year-round through Glade Valley Community Services and The Community Foundation of Frederick. This scholarship is to provide financially need-based funds for post-secondary education in trade, vocational or technical fields to help defray the costs associated with tuition, fees, testing, tutoring, trade tools, supplies, etc. Applicants’ eligibility requirements are: must be a resident of Walkersville feeder school areas, must describe their financial need, career goals and specify how the funds will be used, must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary…

Frederick County Health Metrics Continue to Improve: County to Follow Governor’s Plan for June 12th

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner today announced continued improvement in key health measures related to COVID-19.  The rate of people testing positive for COVID-19 has dropped to 6.5%, below the statewide average. Hospital statistics have significantly improved, with continued declines in overall hospitalizations, intensive care unit beds, and acute care bed counts. Universal testing results from nursing home staff and residents show low rates of infection, with no positive cases detected among residents and only three staff members positive at the three most recent facilities reporting results. Hogan Announces More Openings

Governor Larry Hogan announced the continued improvement in measures used to track COVID-19 in the State of Maryland. As a result, Governor Hogan announced that he is lifting the following restrictions over the next week and a half.
