Frederick County Public Schools Will Open Fully Virtual

The Frederick County Board of Education voted unanimously this evening to open fully virtual in August and continue through the first semester. The Superintendent and administration will be allowed to identify small groups of students who may need in-school instruction, and arrange to meet those needs. The Board also voted to postpone extra-curricular activities including fall sports until January. Dr. Teresa Alban, Superintendent of Schools, explained that superintendents have discussed having fall, winter, and spring sports all in the second semester. Each season would last six weeks. Woodsboro Man Indicted for Distribution of Child Pornography

Registered sex offender, Jeffrey John White, 52, of Woodsboro, was indicted on Friday, July 24th, 2020, for 10 counts of distribution of child pornography. The investigation began when White distributed more than ten files of child pornography to an undercover Frederick County Sheriff’s Office detective assigned to the Frederick County Cybercrime Task Force. A search and seizure warrant was obtained and served at White’s residence on South 2nd Street in Woodsboro on July 6th, 2020. Maryland Pauses Re-Opening, Expands Mask Requirements, and Discourages Travel to Hot Spots

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan paused further re-opening plans today. The pause is due to an increase of hospital beds in use by COVID patients and “a dramatic shift of cases” with 56% of new cases in Maryland among residents under 40 years of age. Maryland will not enter Phase Three of its Re-Opening Plan until further notice.
