Needles and Syringes Found at Playground

Used needles and syringes were found in the Walkersville Methodist Church playground and pavilion area. The church, located on Main Street in Walkersville, is home to a popular pre-school that also uses the playground. The parking lot adjacent to the playground and pavilion is a popular cut through for people walking from Colony Village to Old Town Walkersville. Similar needles and syringes have been found at the nearby tot lot in Colony Village. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Walkersville Resident State Troopers at 301-898-0200.

Buy Your Thanksgiving Turkey at The Great Frederick Fair

Led by Nancy Carlisle, Poultry Superintendent at The Great Frederick Fair and ag-advocate, a new meat turkey project debuts at the 2017 Fair, September 15-23. Southern States sponsors this new project for 4-H and FFA members. Thirty 4-H and FFA members participated in the project. They raised a total of eighty-five turkeys. Exhibitors can bring one turkey to the fair to be judged for meat quality. Championship awards and premiums will be given to a Reserve and Champion Meat Turkey TOM and a Reserve and Champion Meat Turkey HEN. All…

Jack W. Shoemaker, 80, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, Maryland. He was the loving husband of Beverly Cramer Shoemaker. They were married nearly 60 years. Born in Middletown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Wilbur R. and Catherine V. (Shafer) Shoemaker.
