by Maddie Hommey

The Lion’s Boy’s Lacrosse team played Frederick on Thursday, March 30th at 5:30 at Walkersville High school with a 20-2 win!

“We definitely needed to get a win under our belt,” said senior BJ Borowski. The entire team contributed to this win and it will certainly boost the team confidence after three straight losses.

Junior Kyle Wilkinson said, “It was a great game to bounce off three losses in a row.” Wilkinson tallied two goals and two assists in the game.

Jack Chavez, John Kelly, Jake Borowski, and Zach Hope also added two goals each. Kevin Donegan and Camden Church led the team in goals with three and four. Additionally, BJ Borowski, Alex Knott, and Luke Harnes had one each.

BJ Borowski is a senior goalie who transferred to Walkersville this year. In the final minutes of the game after making a save, he ran the ball all the way down the field and scored. “I was just trying to have fun and that’s what our coaches told us to do this year as we try to improve, to have fun no matter what,” Borowski exclaimed.

With the excitement of a variety of players scoring, many had numerous assists as well. Furthermore, the Lions had 43 ground balls compared to the Cadets 23. Walkersville out shot Frederick 29-5. This explains the multitudes of goals the Lions scored.

“We saw a lot of improvements and our defense played well, so it’ll help us in the future and it feels good to not have a lot of pressure as a goalie compared to some of our other games,” BJ Borowski explained.

Senior Dylan Mudd said “This win was a great spiritual lift up from the beginning of the season. It was completely inspiring to win by over 15 goals in a game. The team looks at each other with respect now and we realized that team play is fundamental. We excelled in every aspect against Frederick. I believe we can beat any conference team when we set our minds to it, so I’m looking forward to continuing the season with my boys.”

The Lions will continue as they travel to Brunswick next Tuesday, April 4th with their sights set on another win.
