The Walkersville Lions Varsity Boys Basketball team won against Williamsport at home on Friday night, February 10th, with a final score of 64-61 to improve their record to 9-11.

The evening started out with a dramatic win for the Boys Junior Varsity who pulled out a win in the final second of their game. The JV Lions were down 42-44 when freshman Chaz Egan was fouled shooting a three-pointer with 0 seconds left on the clock. Egan stepped to the free throw line, and coolly drained all three free throws to put his team up by one and win the game.

When asked about how it felt to hit the game-winning free throws Egan shared, “I was just relieved.”

The Varsity Lions were led to a victory of their own by senior Kyle Daggett who scored 29 points and recorded six rebounds, as well as junior Josh Polce who added 17 points and four rebounds.

“We had great energy throughout the whole game. We played defense really well and knocked down big shots in order to maintain the lead throughout the night. It was definitely a confidence builder heading into the playoffs because it’s likely that we’ll see them again in the first round,” said Daggett.

Junior Zack Mathis added eight points and six rebounds, and junior Davis Kelley dished out six assists.

Junior Davis Kelley emphasized teamwork and effort as the game’s biggest keys. “Everyone made big plays at some point, and we all played extremely hard which is the reason we won,” said Kelley. He also mentioned the confidence the team gained after getting a win over a potential playoff opponent.

The Lions have just two regular season games left before playoffs and are looking to end their regular season on a high note by winning out to finish with a record of 11-11. Big home game tomorrow night against rival Middletown.
