Boys B-Ball Loses Heart-Breaker to Middletown 46 – 42
by Megan Allen
The Boys Basketball team took on Middletown High School on February 14th. Many students came out and supported the boys against their rival Middletown. The boys fought hard the whole game but came up just short in the end with a final score of 42-46, Middletown.
Junior Zack Mathis said “It was a disappointing loss. We knew we could beat them but in the end we didn’t get it done.” Mathis drilled a three in the first minute of the game but as the game went on Middletown’s defense got stronger and did not let an easy shot go up.
Senior Kyle Daggett said “I did not play as well as I needed to to in order for us to beat them so I’m pretty disappointed in myself. Josh stepped up though so I’m proud of him. We just need to have a short memory and get our confidence back up so we can make a playoff push. Who knows, maybe we’ll see them again in the sectional final.” Daggett finished with 15 points and played tough defense.
The boys struggled to find momentum and couldn’t keep a lead, but they are hoping to play them again as they keep improving.
“We lost — it was very devastating because Kyle scored his 1000th point and we couldn’t come away with a win. We will go to practice and work harder to get better for play offs. Hopefully we will be able to shake this lost off so we get ready for the next game” said junior Nathan Berry. Davis Kelley agreed and added “It was a tough loss on our home floor against our rivals. We just need to forget about it and get hot before playoffs.”
Although the boys lost, the night was still very special. From the football team revealing the state champs banner to Senior Kyle Daggett scoring his 1000th point, the Walkersville gym was electric.
