Garbage Fire Dumped From Garbage Truck
Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Adventure Avenue in Walkersville shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018. The contents of a garbage truck apparently caught fire. The crew dumped the load on Adventure Avenue just off of Woodsboro Pike. Walkersville Elementary School students were delayed in getting home. Buses were not able to leave the school property onto Woodsboro Pike. No further information has been released.

Mrs. Charlotte E. “MeMaw” Beard, 93, of Walkersville died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Paul R. Beard who predeceased her on June 20, 2004. Born January 30, 1925 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Laura (Young) West. She retired from Micro Biological Associates in Walkersville. Mrs. Beard was a member of Chapel Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir.
