Algebra 2 Now Offered Online for Some Students to Avoid Overcrowding

Algebra 2 had to be offered online to some selected students because there was not enough classroom space for everyone.
When talking to some of those students, they expressed their feelings about not having a full time teacher to help them, and if they enjoyed it more online or less.
Sophomore Brianna Francis is taking the online course and said “I like the online course better than in class because it gives you more freedom, and you can get ahead with your work. Also, I find it easier to work by myself than in a class full of people because I feel I don’t get one on one time and I zone out in a class.”
Most of the selected students who got to take the online class were sophomores. The students who take the online class go to the library when it is their block for math. They also go to any lunch they desire, and most of the students seem to like having all the freedom.
Sophomore Leah Wells said “I like it online because you can work at your own pace and work on your personal weaknesses, although it is kind of hard to not have a teacher when you’re stuck.” Wells added, “However we do have a teacher that comes to help us every Wednesday, so that helps out.”
The online course is very different than in-class Algebra. This year was the first time an online class was offered for Math. If this year goes smoothly and effectively, they are considering offering the same course next year to other students.
Sophomore Sarah Guyton is taking Algebra 2 in class, “I took Algebra 2 in class because I need a teacher to help me, and answer my questions at all times. Math is a hard subject for me so I need a teacher there 24/7.” Sophomore Maddie Holley, who is also taking it in class and agreed with Guyton added, “I talked to my previous math teacher, Mr. Beall and he said it was better if I had an actual teacher so my skills are better for Pre Calc because he said that class is very challenging.”
Media specialist Cindy Doggett is the supervisor of the class in the library. “At first I was worried about the space in here,” Doggett stated, “but now I really like having the Algebra 2 kids in here. They are all hard workers and get their work done,.”
Next year there may be another class online, a lot of students seem to like the idea and are willing to try it.
