Agriculture Business Course
Frederick County Public Schools juniors and seniors have an opportunity to enroll in a new Agricultural Business course jointly developed by the FCPS Career and Technology Center (CTC) and Frederick Community College (FCC) for spring semester 2016 – for FREE!
The CTC’s FFA Alumni Association and FCC, having recently received a grant nearly $24,900 from the Maryland Agricultural Education and Rural Development Assistance Fund to support agricultural entrepreneurship, will offer two FCC dual-enrollment courses this spring: the new BU-140 Agri-Business course and an existing FCC course: BU 109 – Entrepreneurship and Small Business Enterprise.
Participation will enhance each student’s supervised agriculture experience. Grant-funded projects for students include an apiary (for honeybees), cut-flower production, and a small-plot vegetable operation, all functioning with community support. Local business leaders will provide field trip opportunities to agricultural businesses in the community. Additionally, FFA alumni members will mentor students and provide help with hive and grounds maintenance during project transitions.
The courses are during block 3 & 4 of second semester at the CTC. Interested students should contact the CTC via diane.herndon@fcps.org or call 240-236-8493. The courses will be open to the first 15 FCPS upperclassmen who apply and meet the college and career readiness standard.
