WHS Boys B-Ball Team Win Third In a Row Behind Kyle Daggett’s Double Double

Walkersville’s varsity basketball team had a slow start to the season, due to most of their team playing in a state championship football game that carried into the season.
They have now won three games in a row, including the 55-47 win over South Carroll last night. Senior Kyle Daggett lead the team with 22 points and 10 rebounds.”We started out the first half and the beginning of the third quarter shaky but we executed on offense in the second half and got some big stops late in the game to take the lead and hold it,” said Daggett. He is the go to guy in big situations. Standing at six feet and six inches, it is hard for their opponents to match up with against him.
Junior Zack Mathis said, “He hit some timely shots, obviously our best scorer, but stepped up with his rebounding getting double digit rebounds.” Junior Josh Polce also had 10 points in last night’s game and Jerimiah Sweet had 13 points.
Zack Mathis (the son of head coach, Mike Mathis) is also a big part on the offensive side of the ball, having 4 points and 3 assist in last night’s win. When asking about asking about his dad being the coach Zack said, “He has a very intelligent basketball mind; he knows his stuff so it is good for the boys program to have such a knowledgeable coach. He does a good job leaving basketball in the gym and disagreements at home. It is a very beneficial for us as a team and program to gain a good coaching staff.”
Head Coach Mike Mathis is getting this program back on track. The talent and coaching staff that the team has is giving the program a really good chance for a winning season for the first time in a while.
