The baseball team here at Walkersville has been given the chance to prove themselves and show that they are here to make a name for themselves with the young talent that they have. After beating Catoctin 7-6 on Monday, they are hosting Williamsport Wednesday in the regional final.

They earned themselves a bye in the first round of playoffs and this also gives their pitchers time to ice up and rest for a few days. I got a chance to speak with some of the players not only about their outlook on the playoffs but also on their main outlook on the season. Senior David Byard told me “ We had a good season and we have high hopes for the post season but we’re taking it one game at a team”.

Sophomore Jacob Wetzel said “ This season we played really well together as a team. We had a lot of bumps in the road, but came together and gathered a lot of victories. Our playoff picture is looking good. We got the first round bye and we will play Catoctin. My team has beat them before so we have our confidence up going into the playoffs not playing first round and the next round playing a team we have already beaten.”

Junior Josh Clegg added “ I think we got the first game jitters out of the way and we will be ready for Williamsport. We got off to a rough start yesterday, but we finished strong and I think  that will carry into the rest of our playoff games. We worked hard in the off season and we came out with a first round bye and a number one seed in playoffs, so I think even though the year isn’t over it’s still been a pretty big success considering we are a young team.”
