Lions at the Maryland State Semi-Finals
This Friday, a group of hard-working, special young men and their dedicated coaches will travel to North Caroline High School on the Eastern Shore to square off in the Maryland 2A State Semi-final contest. This season has already been one of memories and unforgettable moments and all of Walkersville looks forward to adding another page to our BLUE and GOLD scrapbook Friday night!
Like the Lions, the North Caroline Bulldogs are making a state appearance for the first time in decades. This is possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all of the athletes and coaches from both schools. Not only is the goal to bring home a win to our faithful town but to represent our Lion Community with pride, sportsmanship and unmatched school spirit!
North Caroline is a small school that has a rural setting with a few special characteristics that fans need to be aware of and respect on Friday night. Their stadium has limited seating and limited parking so please note some very special instructions to not only help all fans enjoy the game but also to help the staff and security for both schools maintain safety and appropriate conduct for all who attend.
Visitor seating is limited; therefore after the bleachers reach capacity, parents and fans are welcome to bring chairs and sit in the grass areas on each side of the bleachers facing the field on the visitor side. There will be temporary fencing providing a barrier between fans and the game field. Administrators from both schools ask that all fans remain behind the fencing and off the track and playing surface. The only exception will be the WHS Student Section, which is located behind the westside end zone. This area is designated for current Walkersville students only. North Caroline has brought in temporary bleachers so Walkersville students may have appropriate seating and a front row seat to Friday night’s action. Students also are welcome to bring chairs in the designated section for use if the temporary bleachers exceed capacity. WHS will have administration, teachers and staff present as with every contest to ensure fans lead with the positive Walkersville spirit and are respected by opposing fans and spectators.
Although parking may be a challenge, North Caroline has created temporary parking lots and will be opening a gate for entrance to the game on the west side of the stadium to accommodate Walkersville students and parents who park in temporary parking.
Lion Fans are some of the best in the state and our boys have been riding the coattails of fans’ pride and support all season long. Mrs. Tracey Franklin, Walkersville High School Principal, sent this message and stated “I thank you … for your enthusiastic yet respectful conduct at both of our previous play-off contests. And I thank you in advance for continuing our exemplar spirit and sportsmanship in the contest to come.”

Please note the areas designated for Walkersville fans and students. Gates will not open until 6 pm. (MPSSAA Regulation.)
The entire community shares the students’ and faculties’ excitement and are truly pumped to cheer on our boys.
Mrs. Franklin wrote, “We hope to see a ‘sea’ of BLUE and GOLD both in our student section and parent/fan section Friday night! We wish everyone safe travels to and from North Caroline High School. Go, LIONS!”
