On Monday, August 25th at 5 p.m. PT in the Nokia Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards were handed out to numerous nominees such as Breaking Bad and Modern Family, the two biggest winners of the night.
The host, Seth Meyers opened the show with the question of the timing of the award show, noting that it has not been held on a Monday night since 1976 due to MTV airing the Video Music Awards. “This year we’re doing it on a Monday night which I understand in television means the Emmys are about to get canceled,” he joked.
Among the winners was Modern Family for Outstanding Comedy Series, Breaking Bad for Outstanding Drama Series, and American Horror Story: Coven for Outstanding Miniseries.
There was also some confusion on social media about who was the real host of the show. Jimmy Kimmel, a presenter, cracked one too many jokes and had the public feeling a little awkward. @thesurfreport tweeted “yeah, @jimmykimmel is attempting an #emmys host takeover. Very sharp.” (https://twitter.com/thesurfreport/statuses/504060854715707393)
Ricky Gervais made the same mistakes as Kimmel with a tweet from @refinery29, “Ricky Gervais, we’ll tell you what we told Jimmy Kimmel: You are not the host of this year’s #Emmys.” (https://twitter.com/Refinery29/status/504081840941334528) Kimmel presented the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and Gervais presented for Outstanding Variety Special.
From winners like Julia Louis-Dreyfus from the HBO show, Veep, who wore a stunning red, to the nominees like Laura Prepon from the Netflix Original, Orange is the New Black, who wore a clashing blue and blue-green dress, this year’s Emmy Awards were… as memorable as the 1976 Emmys!
