Every year Walkersville high school host a student-staff basketball for fun but mostly for bragging rights. Although the basketball team and the football team cannot participate in this game, they can coach the students.

The teachers usually find a way to win every year, whether if it is cheating or not. “The teachers did not do official sub-ins, they just ran on and off the court without letting the table know. The refs were just ignoring it just like all the fouls that were going on in the game,” said senior Brooke Tucker.

Other than all the goofiness that was going on during the game English teacher John Van Bloem was the top performer for the teachers and Ari Biggus was also the top performer for the students. “Ari Biggus was the MVP for the students and he should have been on the court the whole time — other than that Mr. Van Bloem tore it up,” said Brad Janis who was watching the game from the stands.

“The teachers were good opponents but some of the things that they were doing during the game were totally illegal and unfair. A lot of the people said that the teachers paid the refs but I’m not really sure. Other than that I think I played pretty well but I could have played better but then again it was just a game that was meant for fun,” Biggus said.

The final score was 29-36 with the teachers on top. It was a well played game by both teachers and students but the teachers seemed to have a little more chemistry than the students. “I think we played well together. After last year, we were nervous about the students being too aggressive, but it was a well played game on both sides. It was fun and I’m glad I’m not seriously injured again,” said English teacher Stephanie Hart.
