Progress on New Developments

New housing will be coming to Walkersville over the next few years. Plans for 167 homes have come before the Walkersville Planning Commission over the past few months. Most have received preliminary approval, and the others will be heard by the commission in the near future. The Bell Property most recently received preliminary approval for 103 homes.  The property lies between MD 194, Fountain Rock Road, Walkersville Elementary School, and another farm on Fountain Rock Road.  The developer will also include community gardens, and a walking path from Antietam Drive…

Bell Property Preliminary Plan Approved

The Walkersville Planning Commission narrowly approved preliminary plans for the development of a 102 single-family home community on Tuesday evening.   The commission spent a great deal of time asking questions of the developer. Questions ranged from road design, sidewalks, and drainage of storm run-off.  Commission member Dick Brady asked about visibility at the planned entrance on Fountain Rock Road, and access to some houses at the entrance on Antietam Drive which would be shared with Walkersville Elementary and High Schools. Bell Property Preliminary Plan

Tonight, the Walkersville Planning Commission will review preliminary plans for the development of the Bell Farm MD 194 and Fountain Rock Road.  The Planning Commission hearing will be held in the Walkersville Town Hall hearing room at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend and provide input at Planning Commission meetings. The developer plans to construct 102 homes.  The property adjoins Walkersville Elementary School.  The development’s entrance will be a shared road with the elementary school and Walkersville High School.  There will be another entrance on Fountain Rock Road.

New Non-Profit Operating Illegally in Walkersville?

A non-profit opened this spring with very little fanfare at 21 West Pennsylvania Avenue, but the non-profit’s business appears to be a violation of zoning for Neighborhood Business.  The property had been a florist shop and most recently a popular antique shop. While the town was told the location would be offices, the offices will soon become an after-school program for scores of children.
