In a rivalry game versus Middletown, senior Kyle Daggett celebrated one of the biggest moments of his basketball career as he scored his 1000th career point. The shot he made to tally his total career points to such an impressive number bounced around on the rim several times before finally dropping in.

“It felt really good to score 1000. I’ve worked very hard over the past several years so I was proud of reaching that milestone in my career,” said Daggett. “I have to thank my teammates for trusting me with the ball for the past few years.”

Daggett excels athletically, a starter for the varsity basketball team for three years. He averaged 11.8 points per game in his sophomore season, 14.5 in his junior season, and is averaging 18.7 points per game this season.

He also played an integral role for the football team that went undefeated and won the state championship this year, playing on both sides of the ball. His athletic ability coupled with his large 6’6 frame has earned him collegiate interest in both sports.

Daggett’s teammate, junior Davis Kelley shared, “Playing with Kyle is nice. He is a great team leader on and off the court. I know every time he touches the ball he has a chance to score so it was awesome to see him score his 1000th point.”

Not only is Daggett impressive on the court and football field, he is a leader within the school and in the classroom. He has one of the highest weighted GPAs in his graduating class, and challenges himself by taking mostly AP and dual enrollment classes. “[Kyle] truly exemplifies a student that is able to manage academic discipline with athletic discipline. It is a challenge that he has managed well,” said Principal Tracey Franklin.

“The one thing that I have always loved about Kyle is that he’s not afraid to do the right thing,” said Franklin. Earlier in the school year, Daggett stepped up big, breaking up a fight between two girls. “He broke that fight up himself, stepping in the middle of the two girls. There are 1100 kids in this building and one kid was willing to do that. [I] think that speaks for his character and what he’s willing to do to be a role model in the school,” shared Franklin.

Daggett and the boys basketball team play on Tuesday night in a sectional semifinal game versus Mountain Ridge.
