School Support Teacher Shannon Marble, a Motivator, Therapist and Friend for WHS Students

by MacKenzie Akers for Walkersville High School Lion’s Pride

Shannon Marble is what you call a jack of all trades. From being a therapist in Pennsylvania to working in drug court, Marble has done it all. Here at Walkersville High she is our school support teacher. This job comes with many different duties; she is a crisis counselor, helps at risk kids, is the buildings 504 coordinator (gives kids special testing areas, extended work time etc.), and is also the homeless coordinator.

Marble has a big heart and it definitely shows. One of her close friends and colleagues Deputy Holland said, “Ms. Marble is very dedicated to her students and always has their best interests in mind. She is very caring and makes one on one connections with all of her students. She is just a great person overall.”

Many students have noticed how caring and involved Marble is with her students. Senior Scott Brennan said, “She is really cool and funny. I’ve noticed that she acts like your friend as well as a teacher.” Marble also is a very motivating person. Senior Jenn Gutierrez said, “She came into one of the classes I was aiding for last year. I noticed that she really motivated her students to get their work done. One student was playing with a ball and she took it away until he finished his work, which really motivated him.”

Assistant principal Cindy Johnson said, “The kids really seem to love her and I know she works hard to make them feel comfortable at school. She also helps provide them with the resources they need to be successful. She smiles a lot.”

Marble said that her favorite thing about her job is “Not being stuck in one classroom all the time. So instead of being limited to one group of students a day, I can go where I am needed. This gives me the opportunity to see lots of different students and teachers throughout my day here.”

Senior Daniel Main said, “Marble used to do a lot with the Pyramid kids and was their counselor but this year I think she got moved. She still goes out of her way to talk to and help these kids that need her. It’s really cool how she still helps them even if it’s not technically her job. My favorite thing about her is that I can literally say anything and she won’t judge me.” Senior Curtis Shoemaker said Marble is, “really funny and you can tell she cares about her students.” Shoemaker then added “She is always on me about my grades and attendance and makes sure that I am doing well overall.”

If you have no idea who Shannon Marble is, you should definitely get to know her this school year!
