Robert Read
Mr. Robert C. Read, 91, of Woodsboro, formerly of Walkersville, died on June 22 at his residence. Born on November 28, 1925 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Ernest Read and Florence (Gude) Read.
Mr. Read was the owner of E.J. Read & Sons, Inc. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. Robert was an avid golfer and was President of the Anacostia Lions Club from 1961-1962.
He is survived by children Robert Read, Jr. and his wife Phyllis, Chris Miner and husband Frank; step-children James F. Claro and wife Sharlene, Robert J. Claro and wife Norma, and Melanie Peters and husband Alan Andrews as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Additionally, Robert is survived by daughters-in-law Linda Read and Maryann Claro; sisters Jeanne Read and Jacquelyn Zeitinger. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Ann Hardy Read and second wife, Mary Claro Read, a son, Charles Read, a step-son, Kenneth J. Claro; step-daughter and husband Mimi Azizi-Rad and Sam; siblings Ethel White and Ernest Read, Jr. and a brother-in-law, Bob Zeitinger.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 25 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 26 at 12:00 PM at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland.
