Physical Education Classes Enjoy Recreational Time in the Park

Have you ever been to the park for gym class? Students and teachers both agree that it is a fun and accessible way to get their daily fitness in. On most sunny days, the Walkersville High School gym class walks to the Walkersville Park to spend their 80 minute gym period.
In the park there are slides, merry-go-rounds, basketball courts and pavilions. Some students even bring a volley ball down and play beach volley ball on the sandy court. Throughout this time, music is played and laughter is shared. It is a good way to get the daily academic frustrations out that students might have. Plus, who does not love going to the park?
“I like going to the park sometimes. Other times I’d rather be in the gym, don’t get me wrong; it’s really not that bad. I usually play basketball or football with my friends. We do the same things that we do in the gym, at the park,” stated freshman Owen Welty. The fitness for life class is a freshman based class and is required to take and pass for graduation. Overall, the freshman seem to really enjoy it.
“I like the park. There’s a lot of stuff to do and it is worth going,” said freshman Thomas Sniezek. Sniezek has an overall athletic personality so the park is something that is fun for him to enjoy. Sniezek is goalie for Walkersville’s varsity soccer team and is able to practice his skills at the park.
If the day is really hot, the students can enjoy playing in the creek. They can catch crayfish and cool off if they want to. Gym teachers would agree that the park is a creative way to get students up and moving.
“I like bringing the students to the park because they get to pick from a variety of activities, some of which they can’t do at the gym. They can play beach volleyball and truly get a chance to act like a kid again and play on slides, swings and merry-go-rounds. It’s nice to let the kids relax,” happily stated gym teacher Erinne Warrenfeltz.
If you ever want to find a fun way to play, visit the Walkersville Park for some quality fun to make you feel like a child again.
