Laura Catherine (Wright) Hawes Morris
Mrs. Laura Catherine (Wright) Hawes Morris, 85, passed into the arms of Jesus on November 11, 2017.
Born March 25, 1932 in Branchville, MD, she was the daughter of the late William and Eloise Wright. She was married to Boyd K. Hawes of Front Royal, VA from 1950 – 1982, having three sons. She was the principal’s secretary of Walkersville High School for many years and was past president of the American Legion’s Women’s Auxiliary. After relocating to Georgia, Laura married Robert Morris. She worked in the health care industry and was a member of the Sunshine United Methodist Church in Toccoa. After Robert’s passing in 2001, she moved back to Maryland to live with her son and daughter-in-law in Smithsburg. She was a member of Garfield United Methodist Church, and enjoyed crafting, antiquing, knitting & crocheting, NASCAR & Dale, Jr., and family time. She also loved any and all things to do with cats.
In addition to her parents and her husband Robert, Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by one brother, William. She is survived by her sons, Kipp Hawes (Jerri), Bobby Hawes (Jill), and Roger Hawes (Charlene); stepchildren, Robert Morris, Jr. and Vicky Brown; brothers Robert Wright (Betty), Maurice Wright (Dacey), a sister, Ruth Ann Jones; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and many other close friends and relatives.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, Nov. 16th from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 at the Chapel Mausoleum of Reshaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick. A funeral service will be held at Garfield United Methodist Church, 13628 Stottlemyer Rd, Smithsburg, MD 21783 at 1:00 PM on Friday, Nov. 17th. Interment will take place in Toccoa, GA on a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Garfield UMC at the above address.
