Kenneth Leo Hines Sr., age 78, of Woodsboro, died Friday, January 25, 2019 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born September 16, 1940 in Plane #4 (between Mt. Airy and New Market), he was the son of the late V.C. Hines Sr. and Annie Beall Hines.
In earlier years Ken worked on the farm and painted houses. He then was employed for 20+ years as a spray applicator for Eddie Mercer of Agri-Services Inc. of Frederick. Ken was a life member of Rocky Ridge Volunteer Fire Co. and a 50-year member of Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Co. He was a devoted volunteer with both companies including driving the squad car and ambulance for Woodsboro. He enjoyed gardening, mowing lawns (especially tending to the lawn at the Woodsboro Complex) and playing cards.
Surviving are son, Kenneth L. Hines Jr. of Woodsboro; 4 grandchildren, Michael Hines and Morgan Arnett, McKenna, Travis and Steven Hines; great granddaughter, Kaylee Hines; sisters, Mabel McDonald of FL, Pauline Davis of NC, Dorothy Wojan of TX and brothers, George Hines and wife Fern of Union Bridge and Thomas Hines of Woodsboro; sister-in-law, Patricia Hines of Thurmont, longtime companion, Frances Angleberger and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Richardson and Annabelle Cline and brother Vernon Hines.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 31 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
