Jane Elizabeth Greenwood

Jane Elizabeth (Shafer) Greenwood of Frederick, died peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

Jane and her loving husband of more than 66 years, Kenneth O. Greenwood, enjoyed travel throughout the US by motorhome. Jane enjoyed tending her flower gardens and knitting beautiful afghans for her family.

Born in Frederick to the late Archie T. and Emma Shafer, Jane graduated from Frederick High School, and was a lifelong Frederick County resident except for when she joined Kenneth serving in the US Army in Texas. She worked at a Frederick hosiery, dime store, Middletown insurance firm, the US Army Corps of Engineers at Ft. Detrick, and helped manage several businesses with her husband in Walkersville and Frederick.

She enjoyed spending holidays with her family.

Survivors besides her husband Kenneth include brothers Thomas Shafer of Keyser, WV, and his wife Jean; Richard Shafer of Saratoga Springs, NY, and his wife Zoe Ann; nephews Christopher Shafer of Baltimore, and his wife Ann; Ryan Shafer of Fairport, NY and his wife Michelle; Steve Shafer of Orrtanna, PA, and his wife Lisa; great nephews Jacob and Zachary, Orrtana; Alexander and Wyatt, Baltimore, MD; and Jack and great niece Savannah, Fairport,NY, and great niece Oliva Eloano and family of Bakersfield, CA. Jane was predeceased by nephew, Timothy Shafer and niece, Jennifer Shafer.

The family will greet friends at Stauffer’s Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 on Tuesday, April 23 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be at Stauffer’s Funeral Home Wednesday April 24 at 11 am. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Burkittsville, MD.
