On 10/24/2019 at 0301 hours, troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack were dispatched to a two vehicle collision in the area of E/B I-70 at Mile Marker 60 in New Market, Frederick County, Maryland.

Upon arriving on scene, troopers found that the vehicles involved included a tanker semi-trailer truck and a passenger car (believed to be a Honda Civic).

The passenger car was fully engulfed in flames and one unidentified occupant was located deceased inside. The adult male and sole occupant of the semi-trailer truck was transported by ground EMS from the scene.

At this time both directions of I-70 are shut down and will remain so for an extended period.

A detour has been established with the assistance of the State Highway Administration / CHART, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, and Fire Police. All east and westbound I-70 traffic is being diverted onto MD-144 (from Exit 59 for MD-144 and Exit 62 for MD-75 respectively).

This is still an active scene and no further information is available at this time.
