Here at Walkersville High our students participate in spirit day during the week of homecoming. Have you ever wanted to dress up like they did back in the day? Well, here is your chance, dress up on Wednesday and bring the past to the present.
The students interviewed explained if they were going to participate and what they were going to wear. “I would wear high waisted jeans with converse and a button down shirt,” said senior Alex Barrera.
“If I were to participate I would wear something tye dye to portray the hippie look,” said Mekayla Chau.
“I would wear mom jeans because they are baggy and wear an afro with some kind of headband,” said senior Alyssa Neal.
“Accessories were big and gaudy. Necklaces were layered on and had large pendants and medallions. Earrings were long and dangly,”
“Hair for men and women was long, tall and wide. In short, blow dry it out, use a lot of hair spray to hold it and you were good to go,”
“The loud, big, gaudy and bright clothes in the eighties mellowed when the 90s approached. Colors were more subtle and hair miraculously flattened. But a love of the 80s fashion endures both as a totally awesome piece of nostalgia and as the next big thing,”
According to The Trend Spotter Fashion in the 1980s was all about excess. Everything was big, bold, and utterly glamorous. During the day, ladies rocked power suits with big shoulder pads to prove that they were just as powerful as the gents. By night, they got glammed-up in sequin and one-shoulder styles. A love of brands and designer labels was also evident during the decade.
Nowadays people just wear whatever they want to wear. Older styles have been brought back just altered for the current generation.
Everyone had a great time celebrating Way Back Wednesday!
