Community Glade Valley

Glade Valley Thanks Mike Garst

Mike Garst, a Glade Valley Community Services Board of Directors member for 6 years, recently moved from the Walkersville community to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Mike served as chair of the SOWAC program each summer for over 6 years and also as secretary for the Board of Directors. The SOWAC (Summer Outreach Walkersville Area Churches) is the summer lunch program sponsored by GVCS and the Walkersville area churches.

Mike said that he “got connected to GVCS because of being involved in SOWAC and because GVCS was part of the original team that started SOWAC. Without GVCS financial support and their guidance, it would have been much more difficult to launch SOWAC.” When asked about his involvement with the GVCS Board of Directors, Mike replied: “I recognized that GVCS was the core organization in Walkersville for bringing churches together to run and support key needs in the community. So I believed it would be good to serve on the board when the opportunity presented itself. And I encourage anybody who is interested in helping the community of Walkersville to reach those who are in need to get involved in GVCS some way.”

Mike also became involved in the Waterboyz for Jesus ministry while in Walkersville and plans to start that ministry in the Dallas area.

Thank You Mike for your dedication and hard work in the Walkersville community. Your service to our community is deeply appreciated. You have made a difference in many ways, and you will be missed! We wish you well in your new endeavors.
