DRUG AWARENESS PROGRAM
The Town of Walkersville and area businesses will be sponsoring a Drug Awareness Program on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. The program will be held at the Walkersville United Methodist Church located at 22 Main Street in Walkersville, Maryland. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the program will start at 7:00 p.m.
Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins will discuss some of the law enforcement issues related to drugs in the area, and introduce the speakers for the program.
Mike Gimbel, the first Drug Czar for Baltimore County, will speak. Mr. Gimbel has been in the field of substance abuse education, treatment, and prevention for over thirty years. His work includes serving on the SADD National Board of Directors, and testifying in front of Congress. He has received numerous awards for his work with those who are suffering from a substance abuse problem. Mr. Gimbel has developed programs for athletes, coaches and parents; he is certified by the NCAA to provide services to all college athletes across the United States. Having recently celebrated his fortieth year of sobriety, Mr. Gimbel has been there and knows what he is talking about.
Paul Palmer, a former professional Football player in the NFL and NFL Europe, will speak to program participants. Mr. Palmer lost a daughter, Moet, to an overdose.
Yvonne Magliocco, a New Jersey school principal, will be the final speaker of the evening. Principal Magliocco also lost a child to overdose.
Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions of the speakers.
The Town of Walkersville’s flier for the event states “There are Drug problems in and around our area, we need to get information to area residents. The
goal of this program is to hope and pray we can save one life, one death is too many.”
