Community Medication Disposal Event Results
On Saturday June 8th, Maryland State Police Troopers from the Frederick Barrack and the Walkersville Resident Trooper Program conducted the second of four Community Medication Disposal Events at the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company #11. This event was held with the cooperation and support of Frederick County Health Department and the Frederick County (MD) Fire & Rescue.
In four hours on Saturday morning, Troopers and volunteers from the community made contact with 158 vehicles that arrived to the site. They collected 367 pounds of unwanted medication, all from private citizens. In addition, 6,290 syringes were turned in for disposal.
Once each quarter in 2019, Troopers will hold these events at different fire departments in Frederick County. The next event will take place on Saturday September 28th, with assistance from the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company #7
