Walkersville Lowers Property Tax Rate

The Town of Walkersville’s Town Commissioners voted to lower property taxes last night at their Town Meeting. After discussing persistent budget surpluses year after year, Town Commissioners felt the town could easily afford reducing the property tax rate. Walkersville already has the lowest tax rate in Maryland for a municipality with more than three-thousand residents. The current tax rate is 16¢ per hundred dollars of assessed real property value. Governor Hogan Expands Phase One Openings to Include Outdoor Dining and More

Governor Larry Hogan announced that the state is now testing 10,000 patients per day. 300,444 tests have been completed as of today. Contact tracing capacity has increased 500% to find and fight the virus. The statewide positivity rate peaked at 26.9% on April 17, 2020. As of May 26, 2020, the positivity rate in the state had decreased to 12.8%. The death rate has dropped by more than 50% since the peak on April 29, 2020. Puppy Scam

Over the past several weeks, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous reports of fraud involving citizens trying to purchase puppies on the internet. The victims find an advertisement for an illegitimate website for the sale of puppies. Once the victim agrees to purchase the dog, the seller advises that they will need to purchase the dog using gift cards. Victims are instructed to go to a retail store and purchase hundreds of dollars’ worth of gift cards. The victim is then instructed to provide the gift card number…
