Beginning in October 2018, detectives from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office began investigating several related property crimes; a commercial burglary near Adamstown in which property was stolen and damaged, a theft from commercial vehicles in which the vehicles were damaged and several thousand dollars of frozen food was stolen near Jefferson, and a theft of tools and a trailer from a business in Urbana. Fraud Charges Issued in Identity Theft Case

On July 24th, 2018, Detective Bird of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office was assigned a fraud investigation. The victim, who lives in Frederick County, had their identity stolen and fraudulent charges were made on their bank account in excess of $16,000. Through the assistance of allied agencies, Detective Bird was able to identify the suspect as Edgar Lopez Mercado of Bronx, New York. Lopez Mercado entered a branch of the victim’s bank in New Jersey, falsely identified himself as the victim, and was subsequently issued a new debit card for the victim’s account. Shooting on Treasure Avenue in Discovery

On Wednesday evening, December 5th, 2018, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 8000 block of Treasure Avenue in Walkersville for a report of a shooting that had just occurred. Upon arrival, deputies found a 20 year old male with a gunshot wound to his rear upper thigh area. The victim was confronted outside of his residence and subsequently shot. Woodsboro Man Killed at Cactus Flats Parking Lot

On Friday evening, November 2, 2018, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched, at approximately 10:41pm, to the Cactus Flats Bar & Grill on Hansonville Road in Frederick for an assault in progress in the parking lot area. Upon arrival Sheriff’s Deputies found an adult male with serious injuries. Bystanders, deputies and EMS staff performed life savings efforts, but the adult male was pronounced deceased at the scene. Student Caught with BB Gun at Walkersville Football Game

During Friday night’s season opener at Walkersville High School, a student showed a small group of students an Airsoft BB gun while the stadium was evacuated because of lightning. Walkersville High School Principal Tracey Kibler, released a statement this evening to the public. According to Kibler, “Law enforcement and administrators responded to this incident quickly and appropriately; there will be appropriate disciplinary consequences.” The principal urges the community to “remind students that weapons of any kind, including toys and look-alikes, are prohibited on school property and at all school events.”
