Suspects Identified in Series of Commercial Thefts and Burglaries

Beginning in October 2018, detectives from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office began investigating several related property crimes; a commercial burglary near Adamstown in which property was stolen and damaged, a theft from commercial vehicles in which the vehicles were damaged and several thousand dollars of frozen food was stolen near Jefferson, and a theft of tools and a trailer from a business in Urbana. Detectives also learned that allied agencies were investigating other similar crimes in nearby areas.

During the course of the investigation, detectives and analysts were able to identify possible suspects and a black Ford Expedition SUV being used during the crime series. Additionally, a review of communication records provided possible locations for where the suspects were residing. On December 5th, Detective Britt responded to the area of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, to attempt to locate the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was located at a residence near the town of Quincy, Pennsylvania. While conducting surveillance, Detective Britt also observed a trailer that matched the one stolen in Urbana several days earlier. Additional Frederick County Sheriff’s Office detectives, as well as Maryland State Police detectives and personnel from the local Pennsylvania State Police barrack, responded to Quincy to assist.

Investigators were able to develop enough information to conduct a search warrant at the suspect residence. That search subsequently resulted in the seizure of over 100 tools and other suspected stolen items, estimated at over $10,000 in value. More than $1,500 worth of stolen frozen food was recovered. Additionally, the suspect vehicle was seized, and the stolen trailer, valued at $2,600, was recovered.

One of the suspects on scene, Mark Edward Miller, 46, of Quincy, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody by Pennsylvania State Police for outstanding warrants though Frederick County. Several other suspects were identified and criminal charges are pending further investigation.

This investigation is ongoing, and further information will be released as it becomes available. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Kevin Britt at 301-600-3601, or the anonymous tips line at 301-600-4131.
