Buy Your Thanksgiving Turkey at The Great Frederick Fair

Led by Nancy Carlisle, Poultry Superintendent at The Great Frederick Fair and ag-advocate, a new meat turkey project debuts at the 2017 Fair, September 15-23. Southern States sponsors this new project for 4-H and FFA members.

Thirty 4-H and FFA members participated in the project. They raised a total of eighty-five turkeys. Exhibitors can bring one turkey to the fair to be judged for meat quality.

Championship awards and premiums will be given to a Reserve and Champion Meat Turkey TOM and a Reserve and Champion Meat Turkey HEN.

All turkeys deemed appropriate by the judge, will be sold at the Market Rabbit and Turkey Sale on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 7 p.m. located in the Poultry/Rabbit Building (14).

The sale will include both meat rabbits and turkeys. Light refreshments will be available for all potential buyers prior to the sale.

Exhibitors will be soliciting buyers, but this is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to participate and support the 4-H and FFA programs. Buyers will get a fresh, locally grown turkey for Thanksgiving or for any other occasion.

Turkeys will be processed for the purchaser, for a nominal fee, and delivered to them by the seller promptly after the fair.
