Roy Witmer

Mr. Roy Wilmer Witmer, 84, of Frederick, passed away on April 5, 2017 at Glade Valley Care & Rehabilitation Center.

He was the loving and faithful husband of Melva Witmer, his wife of 63 years. Born in Frederick, Wilmer was the son of the late Roy and Bessie Witmer.

He graduated from Frederick High School, Class of 1950.

He was a dairy farmer for 23 years before accepting a position with the City of Frederick as a carpenter, where he served another 25 years.

Wilmer enjoyed writing books, and he published two under the pen name Bob Plumb. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Ruritan Club and the Thurmont Church of the Brethren.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Witmer is survived by and will be deeply missed by his five children, Sylvia Thomas of Woodsboro, Keith Witmer and wife Susan of Hagerstown, Brian Witmer and wife Nancy of Woodsboro, Allan Witmer and wife Susan of Frederick, and Kevin Witmer and wife Sherry of New Market; a sister, Lorraine Witmer of Gettysburg, PA; a brother, Ronald Witmer and wife Kathy of Lake Anna, VA; eight grandchildren, Amy, Savannah, Ryan, Cassidy, Kimmie, Lindy, Matthew and Luke; nine great-grandchildren, Caidence, Sage, Michael, Landon, Lily, Leah, Nathan, Camden and Layla; A special niece, Nicole and husband Roger Hensley and many other friends and relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, April 11 at the Thurmont Church of the Brethren, 14 N. Altamont Ave. in Thurmont. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Church will be used for the Heifer Project International .
