Deadline Nears for Frederick County Senior Tax Credit
With the deadline for applying for the Frederick County Senior Tax Credit approaching on September 1, those who are eligible are encouraged to take advantage of the available savings.
So far in Fiscal Year 2017, 1,855 homeowners received credits totaling $518,000. That compares to 2,222 homeowners receiving credits totaling $605,478 in Fiscal Year 2016.
The amount of the Senior Tax Credit will be 20 percent of the net county real property taxes (up to zero) for qualifying homeowners. To be eligible, a homeowner must be at least 65 years of age and the gross income of the household $70,000 or less. All other limitations and requirements of the State Homeowner Tax Credit apply.
A homeowner must apply for the State Homeowner Tax Credit Program in order to receive the Senior Tax Credit.
