Animal Control Hopes to Clear the Shelters with Reduced Adoption Fees
This Friday and Saturday, the Frederick County Division of Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center will offer discounted adoption fees for cats, dogs and rabbits. The effort is part of a nationwide initiative called Clear the Shelters Day. Adoption fees for Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23, will be $23 for all rabbits, cats and dogs, including kittens and puppies. Adoption fees include spaying/neutering, microchipping, vaccinating, and diagnostic testing. The discount represents a savings of up to $127.
“By participating in Clear the Shelters Day, we hope to not only adopt out shelter animals, but to raise awareness about our shelter and promote responsible pet ownership,” says Division Director Linda Shea.
Adoption counselors will be on hand to encourage same-day adoptions, if the animal is already spayed or neutered, and if adopters provide:
- photo ID;
- rental agreement/landlord approval in writing; and
- up-to-date rabies certificates for pets already in the home.
Discount rates will remain in effect for cats and kittens through the month of July.
Kennels will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call the shelter at 301-600-1546.
