Super Walmart Not Super for the Local Population

Walmart is a multi million dollar company with a few secrets up their sleeve. The chain of stores are known for great prices and their availability to the public. But what happens when these stores decide to go super?
Regular Walmart stores do bring great values but they also bring problems that we didn’t bargain for. These problems range from increased traffic to local businesses struggling even more for customers. The problems are small compared to Super Walmart stores. When regular Walmart stores become super problems extend farther than we can comprehend.
The first major problem is traffic. “My house is by the regular Walmart and the traffic is bad. The Super Walmart is going to be even closer to my house and imagine that traffic,” sophomore Claire Moberly stated. The Wegmans section with all the restaurants and local l will be affected by the traffic. More roads may be need to be built in order to deal with all this traffic that will accumulate.
Another problem is with other businesses. Those businesses who are struggling to compete with a regular Walmart will be put out of business entirely by a Super Walmart. The businesses by Wegmans will lose customers. This Super Walmart is even going to shut down their own smaller local Walmart. “Once they build the Super Walmart the company will abandon the previous Walmart. Super Walmart is notorious for that,”sophomore Jarrod McWilliams stated.
This creates a whole new problem in and of itself. With all the businesses that will be put out of work there will not be enough jobs to balance out the economic shift in local store spending. The Starbucks across the street from the building site of the Super Walmart is being shut down to be relocated and is coming over to the Super Walmart lot. The promise of new jobs is foreboding and will only slightly help with the tragedy of lost jobs. “I wish that big companies like Walmart didn’t have to take everyone’s jobs,” junior Leah Sine stated.
Another problem with this new store upgrade is the residential property values outside the store lot will lower. The new development of deluxe townhouses which had a view of a nice serene farm will now have a view of an asphalt parking lot. Because these homes will have a bad view, since they are next to a commercial lot and have heavy traffic the property value will decrease drastically for these homes.
Walmart is a company that’s main purpose is to make money. They will do anything to keep money flowing into their company.Be warned and remember companies like Walmart may have a great reputation but money is the real reason for them going super.
