Prom 2016 a Huge Dancing Royal Hit with WHS Students
WHS Lions Pride Original Story:
by Claire Raimist for Walkersville High School Lion’s Pride
It seems as though we all spent so long getting ready for prom, and in the blink of an eye it’s over. The dance was a success, with a great venue, beautiful weather, tasty snacks, and fun for all.
At 8pm, students started rolling in to the driveway at Walker’s Overlook. Teachers and administration greeted the happy dance-goers as they walked the red carpet to the back patio and tent where the dance took place.
According to a poll on Twitter, 68% of 56 voters’ favorite part of prom is getting dressed up. Everyone looked amazing in their dresses and tuxedos.
The music kept everyone dancing, with classics like “The Cha-Cha Slide” by DJ Casper as well as newer pop and hip-hop songs.
Senior from Frederick High, Jules Chabot, who attended as a guest said, “Everyone went so hard during the Cotton Eye Joe. It was wild.”
When it came time to crown the king and queen, the students gathered around the DJ table to hear the news. Mikaylah Collins won Queen, and Jack Gant won king. However, Gant graciously handed his crown over to Max Trdina, who was also on the ballot and is dating Collins. The kind gesture showed how kingly Gant truly is, and Trdina’s gratefulness also gave off an air of royalty. The couple danced to the senior song, “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack, while their classmates serenaded them.
Junior Anna Sepanic said, “I love getting ready and taking pictures with all my friends! I also loved how everyone was so happy to see everyone else. Everyone was talking to everyone else!”
After prom ended, principal Tracey Franklin tweeted, “I would like to thank all our students, teachers, and parent volunteers who helped make tonight’s Prom a success!”
Prom was a successful night, and students are thankful for the chance to spend a night dancing with friends.
